Show Review: Motionless In White with Beartooth at Webster Hall
Motionless in White & Beartooth returned to the New York City area to bring forth a juggernaut of a tour that sets a high new bar for both bands. With 2020 already starting off, it’s great to see that we’re already getting such an amazing tour package for many fans to see. Whether you like one band better than the other, The Disease & Disgusted Tour is here to make a massive impact on anyone who can “Bear” witness to it.
Motionless in White’s Gothic metal style keeps getting deeper and deeper with every album that passes in their discography. While naysayers may categorize them as a “third rate” Marilyn Manson clone just by the looks they provide, there is way more to this band than more than meets the eye. While the band does borrow heavily from Manson’s iconic image, the band is much more than that with their musical prowess. Plenty of their songs feature callbacks or pay homage to groups like Slipknot, Rammstein, Type O Negative, Linkin Park, The Used, Eighteen Visions etc. MIW’s ability to blend together so many styles is their strength and they do it so well to an extraordinary degree. Front-man Chris Motionless got the crowd bouncing super hard and the energy did never stops. Guitarist Ricky Olson provides an insane riff session throughout the show & drummer Vinny Mauro is blasting away at his kit like there’s no tomorrow. Moshing was absolutely intense throughout the whole crowd and many fans provided a very chaotic scene in the middle of Webster Hall. With hits like Devil’s Night, Eternally Yours, Voices, Reincarnate and Brand New Numb, Motionless in White brought out a set that many fans could truly appreciate and have a fantastic time with.
If Motionless in White is the Yang, then Beartooth is their Yin. These two bands are incredibly different from each other despite being labeled in the metalcore genre. Yet, these two bands being on tour together provide an incredibly charismatic experience. Beartooth’s heavily influenced punk rock sound dabbles into uncharted territory for metalcore. In return, they provide a very high octane experience that will get concert goers excited. After seeing Beartooth do a massive tour with A Day To Remember last year, it’s great to see the band return to the Metropolitan area so soon. Frontman Caleb Shomo’s incredibly uneasy and anguished voice is a perfect fit for Beartooth’s thrilling sound. The band wants you to make a stand to believe in yourself and they want you to not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Beartooth played a great set with hits like Hated, Beaten in Lips, Bad Listener & Aggressive! These songs all provided the mosh pit chaos to continue on throughout the whole set. A true spectacle to behold.
Florida’s own Limbs was the first opener of the night to warm the crowd up before the two main acts took to the stage. Limbs played a short, but efficient set to get everyone at Webster Hall excited. With a sound that oozes personality with inspiration from bands like Underoath and Saosin, this new Post-Hardcore outfit is looking to bring a classic metalcore sound back again in full force. If you’re looking for a new band that freshens up one most recognizable sounds from a different era, then Limbs will provide that.
Motionless in White & Beartooth provided a wonderful experience for both sides of their fan bases. This was a great show that provided a lot of fun excitement. If you get the chance, be sure to make it out to the rest of the tour dates! It’s always very exciting to start off the new decade with an incredible tour package.
