Apple Inc. “Meet The Musician” Zakk Wylde 1/17/14
SoHo’s Apple store appearance of Zakk Wylde came as a surprise for me when I first heard of the Black Label Society lead singer’s presence. Apple holds special appearances as part of their “Meet the Musician” Podcast, with musicians of different genres and labels appear across Apple stores in the United States. With “Unblackened” released live on CD/DVD and Blu-Ray, it was a great point in time for Father Zakk to begin marketing the new album “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” which will be released by Eone Music on April 8th, 2014.
The 3 hour wait was rather entertaining within the store. I stood by hearing the sound check for Zakk that was happening on the second floor of the Apple store and chatting up with fellow fans and fellow “metal heads” of the community. The demographic was everywhere. The various age ranges and different personalities that came in were full of laughter, joy and excitement. There was a sense of awe and when silence was needed, it was given. I have never witnessed a Black Label Society concert. However, the respect given to this legend was almost as if I was at one. The fatal flaw of this was that it was ONLY one hour. I was hoping for two hours really, but the front row seat EXACTLY in front of Zakk was more than I could ask for. His meet and greet was quick also. Zakk appeared and gave the option of having one photo taken with him, or one piece of memorabilia autographed. Many fans brought their guitars with them, others had his book he wrote back in April 2013 “Bringing Metal to the Children: The Complete Berzerker’s Guide to World Tour Domination”. You can purchase his book on Amazon.com (Link provided). The photos below will give you an idea of what the event was about. His acoustic performance was top-notch. When he sang “Another Spoke in the Wheel”, it brought me back to his live performance DVD he released in September 2013. You can see the segment below from Youtube. Zakk also played classics like “The Blessed Hellride” and ‘Stillborn”. His interview, which was moderated by Guitar World magazine’s own Brad Tolinki (Editor-In-Chief), and acoustic performances can be seen on the Apple Podcast (which is free of course) in about one week give or take. The video link will be posted on this page when released and if it is on Youtube, then the video will be posted here. For now, check out the photos I took from the front row.
